UFC Saudi Arabia is a stacked fight night card. One of the card’s highlights is a light heavyweight matchup between Johnny Walker and Volkan Oezdemir. The fight will be Oezdemir’s consecutive fight outside the USA, and Gilbert Burns might know the answer to why it is.
Oezdemir’s last fight was against Bogdan Guskov at UFC Paris, headlined by Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak. The Swiss fighter won the fight via submission in the first round. Guskov has fought twice since the loss, and Burns revealed why Oezdemir hasn’t.
Gilbert Burns Reveals Volkan Oezdemir’s Bar Fight
Gilbert Burns recently discussed the upcoming UFC Saudi Arabia card on the Show Me The Money podcast. Burns also delved into the particulars surrounding Oezdemir’s long absence from the Octagon. Oezdemir engaged in a bar fight while he worked as a security guard at a club in Florida.
“He went to a fight, he knocked those two guys out. Broke the guy’s jaw, and he’s paying a lot of money. He cannot come back, He cannot come to the US anymore. That’s why he’s fighting in Saudi Arabia, Europe, Abu Dhabi. He cannot step a foot in the US again,” Burns said of Oezdemir’s predicament.
The fight happened when a man at the club tried to flirt with Oezdemir’s girlfriend. In the altercation, Oezdemir knocked out two men, Sergio Sandoval and Kevin Cohen. Both alleged victims suffered concussions. After being charged with a second-degree felony, he was released on bail, but his passport was withheld.
Nevertheless, Oezdemir is a slight betting underdog against Johnny Walker at UFC Saudi Arabia. However, Gilbert Burns, Renato Moicano, and others have predicted a victory for Oezdemir, citing Walker’s durability issues.
