The UFC’s welterweight division is buzzing right now. With the UFC 304 approaching fast, Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad are set to duke it out for the welterweight title this weekend. But another piece of news has fans filled with anticipation. Recently, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman hinted at his return.
Once the dominant force in the UFC’s welterweight division, Usman is ready to make waves in the octagon again. The former champion recently addressed his future in the sport, sparking excitement among fans and fighters alike.
“Like I said, the boogeyman is on sabbatical right now, that’s all it is. You know, I still got tread left in these tires and I’m still gonna show that I am one of the best, if not the best in the world,” Usman said via The Pound 4 Pound Podcast.
Usman is known for his powerful wrestling and great striking. However, he hasn’t been seen in the UFC octagon since his last fight back in October 2023. Many fans wondered if the “Nigerian Nightmare” had hung up his gloves for good. But it seems the boogeyman of the welterweight division was just on a brief hiatus.
He is currently on a three-fight losing streak, with two of those coming against the reigning champion Leon Edwards. Usman’s last fight was against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294, which he also lost. But his recent revelation has left fans filled with excitement.

Usman’s long hiatus left fans wondering whether the “Nigerian Nightmare” lost his scare factor. Well, it seems he has been sharpening his claws in the shadows. The former champ is ready to remind everyone why he once ruled the division. Talking about his potential opponent, he said,
“There is a huge chance that it comes down to one of these guys [Jack Della Maddalena, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Belal Muhammad or Ian Garry]… And of course, staying at welterweight, I would have to choose one of these guys. It’s up to me to go show them… they’re not on my level yet. That I’ve been doing this. That I have been, always will be the boogeyman of that welterweight division.”
Usman’s confidence remains unshaken despite his recent setbacks. However, his path back to the top isn’t without obstacles. But Kamaru Usman has never been shy to take the easy road. His entire UFC career is a testament to facing the toughest challenges head-on. MMA fans are anticipating who Usman will choose for his comeback fight.
