At UFC 298, Ilia Topuria knocked out Alexander Volkanovski to become the undisputed featherweight champion, and since then, he’s been on cloud nine. But one fighter is standing in his path to cement his legacy as a featherweight great. And that is Max Holloway. Recent updates from the champ himself have shed some positive news, indicating the two Titans can potentially duke it out in the Octagon soon.
‘El Matador’ recently took to social media to stir the pot. He suggested that the UFC had ‘forced’ his potential opponent to accept the fight. The Georgian-Spanish fighter’s cryptic message was a direct aim at Holloway and his alleged denial of fighting with him.
“It seems that the UFC has forced him to say yes. El Matador is back. Congratulations to all @ufc fans.” Topuria wrote in a post on X.
The former featherweight champion and current BMF title holder is riding his own high. The Hawaiian fighter’s most notable fight was at UFC 300 when he knocked out Justin in the last second of Round 5. This knockout was arguably one of, if not the best, the knockout of 2024 yet.
Topuria’s announcement comes after months of fan demands for a worthy contender. It seems the UFC has finally listened, much to the delight of fight enthusiasts. The potential matchup has all the makings of an instant classic. While no date has been set, the mere possibility of this mega fight has ignited the enthusiasm of the MMA community.

Holloway, known for his exceptionally striking and iron chin, looked absolutely ripped in photos he shared on Instagram. The photos show him putting on serious work at the gym. His chiseled physique suggests he’s preparing for something big on the horizon. ‘Blessed’ captioned the images with “Patiently waiting.”
The timing of these photos is particularly interesting. They come hot on the heels of the current featherweight champ Ilia Topuria’s recent comments. Topuria hinted at a possible title defense against an allegedly reluctant opponent. Fight fans have put together two and two and inferred that Topuria vs. Holloway is the matchup. Nothing official has yet come out. Fans would be in anticipation of any news on arguably one of the biggest fights this year has to offer.
