Alex Pereira’s power is a well-known entity in the UFC, and as such, even heavyweights are afraid to stand and fight with him. Curtis Blaydes, the heavyweight contender, recently revealed his straightforward game plan for a hypothetical bout against the surging Alex Pereira.
Blaydes revealed a simple yet effective gameplan against ‘Poatan,’ capitalizing on his basically unknown ground game. He described his strategy, cutting through the usual bravado with refreshing frankness. Even his UFC 304 opponent Tom Aspinall had given a similar reply when asked about a potential fight against Pereira. Blaydes’ plan is so simple, it might just work – especially against a striker of Pereira’s caliber.
“Bad idea…I’ll give you my premeditated plan. I’m gonna shoot. Immediately. Why would I give him any chance to knock me out on the feet when I know I can take him down at will?…Yes [I would welcome Pereira to heavyweight]…I would f*** up Alex,” stated Blaydes during the UFC 304 media day presser.
Pereira, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, has been making waves with his devastating knockout power. The Brazilian has already claimed titles in two weight classes, and whispers of a potential move to heavyweight have been circulating. It’s enough to make any heavyweight contender nervous, but not Blaydes.
The contrast between these two fighters couldn’t be more stark. Pereira, with his highlight-reel knockouts and striking acumen, versus Blaydes, the grinding wrestler with a penchant for ground-and-pound. It’s a classic striker versus grappler matchup, the kind that has captivated MMA fans for decades.
Alex Pereira Has No Interest In Fighting Anyone Else Other Than The Title Holder
Fighters often hop between weight classes in search of glory and legacy. But Pereira is taking a more measured approach. The UFC light heavyweight champion, known for his devastating knockout power, has his sights set on the heavyweight division. However, he’s not interested in any old fight. For Pereira, it’s championship gold or bust.

‘Poatan’ made it clear that he was not looking to climb the heavyweight ladder rung by rung., He recently stated on his YouTube channel that he was only interested in fighting for the belt.
“If it’s Jon Jones. If it’s Tom Aspinall, it doesn’t matter. I have to get straight to the point and straight to the belt… I am evolving, each fight becomes harder for these people whoever it is it doesn’t matter to me,” stated Pereira.
This stance put Pereira in an interesting position. While interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has expressed interest in facing the Brazilian striker, Pereira isn’t biting. He just wants one thing, and that is a chance to become the first three-division champion in the UFC.
As of now, Pereira is focused on his next opponent, Magomed Ankalaev. The grappling-heavy fighter would definitely be a tough matchup for the Brazilian striker. This fight would also test Pereira’s elusive ground game at the highest level.
