Not many UFC heavyweights have a claim to being the GOAT of the division. The one with the best claim is Stipe Miocic, the two-time champion. However, the 41-year-old is a huge betting underdog in his upcoming fight against Jon Jones, potentially at UFC 309.
Originally scheduled to fight at the Madison Square Garden at UFC 295, the promotion had to delay the fight due to Jones’ injury. The delay has halted the division’s progress as the UFC scheduled Tom Aspinall, the interim champion, to defend his title at UFC 304 in London.
Miocic Determined to Silence Doubters Against Jones
Preluding the biggest fight of his career, later this year, Miocic spoke to CBS Sports Shakiel Mahjouri for the SHAKMMA YouTube channel. The former two-time champion has not fought since he lost the title to Francis Ngannou three years before at UFC 260.
However, the Cleveland native seemed to have not lost his competitive appetite. The full-time firefighter and paramedic seemed bothered by the storyline going into the undisputed heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones.
“Everyone thinks he’s going to beat my ass. I don’t like being told that. I like shutting people up. And he’s beatable, I know he is. And anyone’s beatable, and I’m gonna be the first to do it,” said Stipe Miocic, showing immense confidence in what he said.
Preluding the fight, ‘Bones‘ have only spoken highly of Miocic. However, some felt it was part of the heavyweight champions’ mind games. On the other hand, Miocic is extremely confident about defeating the arguable GOAT of MMA.
