Alex Pereira saved UFC 303 on short notice after Conor McGregor withdrew due to injury. ‘Poatan’ TKOed Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 303 main event, garnering huge praise from the MMA community, including Dricus du Plessis, the middleweight champion.
With the switch head kick finish, the Brazilian has KO/TKOed opponents via four techniques (punch, elbow, knee, and elbow). Johnny Walker, Anthony Smith, Dan Hooker, Georges St-Pierre, Alistair Overeem, and Jeremy Stephens are the only others to do so.
Du Plessis Commends Pereira’s UFC Achievements
Dricus du Plessis was recently in Perth, Australia, for the UFC 305 press conference. Also present were Israel Adesanya, Steve Erceg, and Kai Kara-France. After the press conference, the South African champion spoke with Submission Radio, where the 30-year-old lauded Alex Pereira’s accomplishments in the UFC.
“That man is an absolute monster. You know, what he’s done in a short period of time in the sport, how can you not be a fan? That guy, in three years, got himself a spot in the Hall of Fame, in my opinion, for sure. In combat sports, probably one of the greatest athletes to ever live,” du Plessis praised the UFC light heavyweight champion.
“I don’t know how long Alex is going to be around anymore, but you know, it doesn’t even matter. If that guy retires tomorrow, he’s going down as one of the all-time greats, in my opinion. He is an amazing fighter,” the middleweight champion added, admitting to being a massive fan of the 36-year-old Brazilian.
Interestingly, Pereira cornered against Dricus du Plessis when he fought Sean Strickland at UFC 297. The Brazilian has already headlined two PPVs in 2024, three in eight months. As for du Plessis, he will headline his second PPV of the year with UFC 305 in Perth, a historic African vs. African PPV against Israel Adesanya.
