Dricus du Plessis, South Africa’s first and only UFC champion, will face his toughest test at UFC 305 against Israel Adesanya. After winning the title at UFC 297 from Sean Strickland, ‘Stillknocks’ called for his first title defense against his fiercest rival, and the UFC obliged.
‘The Last Stylebender’ has not fought since he lost the middleweight title to Strickland at UFC 293. However, the Kiwi seemed focused at the UFC 305 press conference in Perth. Moreover, he had an intense face-off against the South African.
Dricus du Plessis’ underrated trash-talk game
After the UFC 305 press conference, Dricus du Plessis spoke with Submission Radio. Interestingly, the champion revealed what he and the challenger said at the face-off. It appeared the South African brought his underrated trash-talk during the face-off.
“He said, ‘Don’t go kissing, man.’ I said, ‘I’m no dog, so I won’t.’ You know, I wasn’t really focused on what he was saying. I didn’t say anything. I’m not here to say anything to him. There’s no need to be saying anything,” said the middleweight UFC champion.
The ‘dog’ mentioned by du Plessis alluded to Sean Strickland’s accusations of Adesanya molesting his pet dog. Videos of the Kiwi inappropriately touching his now-late dog had gone viral on social media. Nonetheless, Stylebender had refuted those accusations.
Dricus du Plessis is no stranger to sensitive trash talks. Preluding his title fight against Strickland at UFC 297, Stillknocks mentioned the American’s childhood trauma at the hands of his father. It now looks like the dog will be a big part of the build-up to the UFC 305 title fight.
