Khamzat Chimaev had the opportunity of a lifetime to headline the UFC Saudi Arabia at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Chimaev, who has a massive fan following in the Middle East, was set to face Robert Whittaker in a number-one contender fight.
However, Dana White recently announced Chimaev’s withdrawal, citing violent illness. Ikram Aliskerov, a former opponent of Chimaev, has now stepped up on short notice. Nonetheless, fight fans hope for a speedy recovery for the undefeated Chechen.
Why Did Khamzat Chimaev Pull Out from UFC Saudi Arabia?
Dana White refused to delve deep into Khamzat Chimaev’s health issues. However, Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov, a friend of Chimaev, revealed the reason behind his pullout. Abdulvakhabov is the current ACA lightweight champion and one of the best lightweight fighters outside the UFC.
“Food poisoning is always dangerous, accepting a fight with food poisoning… He knew his state, [knew] that he wouldn’t be able to fight.That’s why he called if off,” said Abdulvakhabov, in his interview on UshataUFC.yka YouTube channel.
However, the ACA lightweight champion does not have first-hand knowledge of the situation. He revealed that he learned of it through mutual friends. Chimaev has faced health issues ever since the Covid-19 contraction. He even considered retirement from the sport.

Nonetheless, Chimaev responded to his current situation on a positive note. He posted a picture on Instagram with the caption, “We always plan something, but Allah has his own plans for us!
Alhamdulilah 🤲🏼”. Nevertheless, Chimaev’s loss is now Ikram Aliskerov‘s gain.
