Conor McGregor, the biggest superstar in MMA, has not fought since he broke his tibia at UFC 264. Dana White announced McGregor’s return at the UFC 302 press conference for UFC 303. However, McGregor withdrew from the fight two weeks before the fight due to an injured toe. Nobody knows whether McGregor will return, but White seems to have some idea of it.
McGregor’s Return Expected in December 2024
Dana White has some busy days ahead as it is International Fight Week. Nonetheless, the UFC CEO caught up with Robbie Fox for a quick interview. A curious Fox enquired about Conor McGregor’s potential return in August, September, or October, to which the UFC head honcho replied, “None of the Above.”
McGregor is the biggest PPV star, and it doesn’t make sense for the Irishman to be on fight nights. August was already out of the cards as UFC 305 is in Perth, headlined by Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya. UFC 308 is in October in UAE, likely headlined by a Muslim fighter, most likely Islam Makhachev.
As for UFC 307 in October, Ariel Helwani recently revealed the UFC is targeting a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria. UFC 306 at the Sphere in September looked like a return date for McGregor, but it is now out of the question. Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili will likely be the main event of it.
That leaves UFC 309 and UFC 310 left in 2024. Jon Jones will return to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 at the Madison Square Garden, ruling out the possibility of a McGregor return. Therefore, December is now the realistic return date for the “Notorious” Irishman.
