Dana White has found himself on the end of some criticism recently, both for slapping his wife and starting up a Power Slap league. You really couldn’t make this up…
The UFC boss has been getting stick from fight fans over the latter and they’ve now been joined by a neuroscientist, who took to Twitter to slam the new promotion, if you could call it that.
Chris Nowinski, popular for criticizing the handling of concussions in sports, is a leading professional in his field, a Havard Ph.D., and a former wrestler. He is also the co-founder and president of the Concussion Legacy Foundation.
Nowinski seemed absolutely disgusted by a clip that has been doing the rounds on social media.
The footage showed Power Slap contestant Chris Kennedy exhibiting signs of a serious head injury, as he displayed what’s known as a “fencing posture,” after being administered a strong blow.
“This is so sad. Note the fencing posture with the first brain injury” Nowinski tweeted on Thursday. “He may never be the same. @danawhite & @TBSNetwork should be ashamed. Pure exploitation. What’s next, “Who can survive a stabbing”?

The fencing posture, noted above, is one that causes a victim’s forearms to flex outward as their hands shoot into an unnatural position. It’s also called a fencing response.
Power slapping emerged as a sport some years ago and was made popular around 2020 following several videos featuring Russian sensation Vasiliy Khamotiskiy going viral.
