UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley will likely defend his title for the second time against Merab Dvalishvili, the No. 1-ranked bantamweight contender. Dvalishvili, aiming for the bantamweight title, has demonstrated his dominance in the octagon by defeating challengers and earning his top ranking. However, the date for this bout is not confirmed, and it remains uncertain when they will fight. And Merab recently revealed his strategy for the matchup against O’Malley.
UFC veteran Michael Bisping expressed doubts about Merab’s plan in a YouTube video on the ‘Michael Bisping Podcast,’ where Bisping and light heavyweight fighter Anthony Smith interviewed Merab. Dvalishvili disclosed that his game plan is to strike with O’Malley when they meet in the octagon later this year.
In the interview, Bisping asked Merab, “Sean O’Malley, what’s gonna happen when you guys fight?.” Merab responded by saying, “What’s gonna happen is now I’m gonna show everybody my striking. Yeah, I have wrestling, but now I wanna prove my striking. And I want to go punch his face because he thinks I’m gonna wrestle him. No, I’m gonna punch.”
Smith didn’t hold back his thoughts, saying, “I don’t believe you.” Bisping then added, “Thank you. I was gonna say, Merab, you are full of sh*t.”
Is Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley Targeted for Sphere?
UFC 306 at Sphere is generating significant hype as the most anticipated PPV event. UFC CEO Dana White reportedly spent $17 million on producing the Riyadh Season Noche UFC fight card. The event promises thrilling matchups, and fans may see the Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley fight there, though it’s not yet confirmed.
In a recent YouTube video, O’Malley expressed uncertainty about Sphere due to other potential big fights, such as Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway or Conor McGregor’s return, which could also headline the event if McGregor recovers quickly. While White has not yet revealed the exact date for the Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley fight, fans can expect it to happen soon.
