On June 8, 2024, Dana White’s UFC announced the signing of ex-RIZN champ Kai Asakura. Since then, there has been speculation about when the Japanese bantamweight fighter will make his debut. Recently, he gave a huge update on his debut inside the UFC octagon.
MMA Orbit shared a post on its X handle stating that Asakura recently revealed that his debut bout had been almost finalized. The post revealed that the Japanese fighter took to his YouTube channel to announce the news.
Who Could Dana White Pick For Kai Asakura To Face In His UFC Debut?
Asakura is not only a great MMA fighter but also enjoys huge popularity. So, his signing is a major boost for White’s promotion, especially in the Asian subcontinent. But the UFC head honcho must be picking up potential fighters who could face the Japanese in his debut match.
Since Kai will fight in the bantamweight division, he might be asked to fight Jose Aldo. With a record of 32-8-0, the UFC veteran is coming off a spectacular victory at the UFC 301. So, he might get a chance to test the debutant.
Another possible opponent for Kai could be Song Yadong. Hailing from China, he could certainly delight Asain fans with his phenomenal fighting style against the Japanese prospect. Moreover, Yadong has a great MMA record of 21-8-1 and ranks eighth in the bantamweight division.
Kai may face an Asian opponent, so Petr Yan’s name certainly can’t be ruled out. With a record of 17-5-0, the Russian fighter recently defeated Yadong at UFC 299. Therefore, he has a better chance to face the Japanese star.
