Steve Erceg, a former title contender, is set to face the toughest fight of his career against Kai Kara-France. At one point, Erceg considered stepping away from professional MMA, but his father’s encouragement kept him going. Known as ‘Astro Boy,’ Erceg has established himself as a dominant and top contender in the division. However, ahead of his UFC 305 fight, an update on Erceg’s father has reignited his determination to continue in MMA.
In a recent UFC vlog on YouTube, Steve Erceg shared that his dad wanted to lose some weight, so he decided to join an MMA class when Erceg started training. Initially, ‘Astro Boy’ didn’t want to continue with MMA, but he kept going, largely because of his father’s influence. He said,
“He started coming home and telling me about all the different chokes he was doing, the sparring sessions… so it all sort of brought me back to the sport, and we haven’t stopped since.”
Erceg didn’t stop fighting, and in his last bout, he challenged the current UFC flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja, but lost the fight by unanimous decision. Now, he’s set to challenge Kai Kara-France at UFC 305.
