The heavyweight bout fans have been waiting for is finally happening. Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic are set to throw down, and it will be epic. Dana White just dropped the bomb as he announced the fight. Jones and Miocic will headline UFC 309 on November 16th at Madison Square Garden.
Almost a year earlier, this same fight was targeted at the same place and the same month. However, Jones had to pull out due to a pectoral tear. Since then, fans have been chomping at the bit for this matchup. But the heavyweight division didn’t stop.
Tom Aspinall became the interim heavyweight champion in the same card intended for Jones and Stipe. He has been turning heads and has racked up three first-round knockouts, including two title fights in the last year.
Jones will be coming off a pretty long layoff, as his last fight was against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Miocic, on the other hand, is coming off a three-year layoff. His last fight was a knockout loss against the heavy-handed Francis Ngannou. These two heavyweight greats will battle it out, probably for the last time in the octagon, to settle who the superior fighter is once and for all. And time will tell whether that fighter will go on to unify the belt against Aspinall.
Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall Calls Out Jon Jones Again
Aspinall has been making waves since his thunderous return to the Octagon. After a nasty knee injury sidelined him, he bounced back with a vengeance. His recent demolition of Curtis Blaydes in his first interim heavyweight title defense was pure dynamite.
But Tom Aspinall is not content with just any old belt. He’s got his sights set on the big guy in the division: Jon Jones. He has been calling him out since last year and is now calling him out again.

“He [Jon Jones] wants the easy fight, Stipe, for now, But I have the faith. Jon’s getting a bit ticked off with me at the minute, which is my intention. I’m trying to test his ego,” said Aspinall via TNT Sports.
‘Bones’ is widely considered the GOAT of MMA. Challenging him is something others would think about for months. But Aspinall is sticking to his guns and is ready to unite the belts sooner than later.
