The debate over who is the greatest of all time in any sport is always heated and never-ending, with fans and analysts constantly weighing in with their biases. Likewise, the list of contenders in UFC is long, including names like Jon Jones, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Georges St-Pierre, and Conor McGregor. Recently, former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling shared his thoughts on who he believes is the ultimate GOAT in MMA. Surprisingly, Sterling didn’t pick Jones, GSP, Khabib, or McGregor. Instead, he named Demetrious Johnson as the greatest of all time.
In a recent interview with Home of Fight, Aljamain Sterling was asked about his recent picture with ‘Mighty Mouse’ and how special it was. Sterling replied that Johnson is one of the greatest minds in MMA history. He shared insights into how Johnson explained his move setups and his mental approach to the game. Sterling praised Johnson’s training and skills, ultimately naming him the MMA GOAT over Jones.
He says, “There’s no question why, just with my experience with him in those few times we got to train with each other, it’s no doubt why he has been and still is to me, the greatest of all time in any weight class. I just think the guy is that damn good. The second probably Jon Jones.”
There’s no doubt that Mighty Mouse is one of the greatest in the flyweight division. He held the title from 2012 to 2018, successfully defending it 11 times. Although Johnson’s record is jaw-dropping, his lack of huge star power and the lower profile of the flyweight division often cause people to overlook him in GOAT discussions. However, Aljamain Sterling hasn’t forgotten him and recognizes his greatness. Meanwhile, UFC dropped ‘The Goat’ Promo.

The uproar stems from the UFC CEO’s view of Jones as the greatest fighter ever and gets frustrated when Jones isn’t ranked as the number one pound-for-pound fighter despite his dominance.

Amidst all the drama and memes, the UFC recently at DWCS released a new promo for Jones titled “The GOAT,” showcasing his achievements. The video has Jones’ top moments and stats, like his 15 title wins and most UFC light heavyweight victories. Additionally, clips of his best fights and commentary from Dana White, Jon Anik, and others, all hailing the current heavyweight champ.
