UFC Vegas 87 featured a combination of victory and heartbreak as two seasoned competitors, Jamie Pickett and Tyson Pedro, hung up their gloves after losing by unanimous decision to Eryk Anders and Vitor Petrino, respectively, in a night of heated fighting and poignant farewells.
Jamie Pickett carried the burden of an imminent retirement into the Octagon matchup with Eryk Anders. Pickett dropped Anders early in the bout, but his skill as a wrestler allowed him to change the tide. Pickett was a former University of Alabama linebacker.
After wearing down Pickett with unrelenting wrestling and boxing, Anders was able to control the final rounds and win by unanimous decision with scores of 29-27, 29-28, and 29-28. Before the match, Pickett declared his retirement from mixed martial arts. He had a 13-11 record professionally and said he wanted to set a good example for his kids and steer clear of the potential long-term harm that comes with fighting.
