Many fans believe the lightweight division in the UFC is the toughest one in the world. There are a ton of world-class fighters who can easily acquire championship titles in other divisions. One of them is Beneil Dariush, who was on an absolute tear in the company, winning six consecutive fights before losing two consecutive ones.
Dariush is well aware of how the fight game works, being one of the best strikers and grapplers in the organization, and was seen talking about the title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier.
Beneil Dariush last fought a few months back when he lost to Arman Tsarukyan in the first round of their bout. Dariush will be willing to get back in the win column as soon as possible.
Beneil Dariush on Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier bout
The UFC has announced that Dustin Poirier is set to take on Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title in the UFC. Makhachev and Poirier are two of the absolute best in the company, and both have beaten some of the biggest names in the organization. Poirier beat up Beneil Dariush in the UFC 200 co-main event. He garnered heavy praise as he beat the Frenchmen and was awarded an immediate title shot by the UFC. Dariush said,
I think it’s gonna be a tough fight obviously for Poirier. But I think he has the knockout power to catch him. But I think he’s gonna be a big underdog.
Dariush clarified that Poirier would be the underdog in the title fight. He thinks Poirier has knockout power through which he can potentially knock out Islam Makhachev but will have a tough time dealing with Islam’s grappling. According to many, Makhachev is way too versatile for Poirier, including Beneil Dariush. Dariush is one of the top lightweights and knows how things work at his weight class in the UFC.
