Conor McGregor’s last fight was at UFC 264 in 2021. When he will step inside the octagon at UFC 303, it will be three years since then. The long absence has caused fans to question the cardio and endurance of the Irishman. However, UFC legend Michael Bisping has no qualms about it.
Conditioning has been the Achilles heel of the Irishman in MMA. He has been a terrific fighter in the first two rounds, especially the first. However, he has often lost steam as the fight prolonged, evidenced by his losses to Dustin Poirier, Nate Diaz, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Michael Bisping speaks on the conditioning of Conor McGregor
One fighter known for his cardio in MMA is Michael Bisping, the retired UFC champion and Hall of Famer. The Hall of Famer had already stated McGregor looked in tip-top shape with no signs of a leg injury, as rumors suggest. He also gave his verdict on McGregor’s conditioning in the same video on YouTube.
“That was nice. Slips the left jab, left hand, right uppercut. That left that he’s known for, still got the timing, still got the power, still got the speed, still got the accuracy as well. And then the little right hook slides in underneath as well. So again, you know, looking smooth, looking good, looking like, dare I say, the old Conor McGregor,” Bisping said of McGregor, who looked incredibly in the sparring footage.
McGregor wreaked havoc on his opponents during his heyday with his mighty left hand and check right hook. The Southpaw fighter was elusive and agile inside the octagon, and opponents found it difficult to get the range on him.
One of the best counterstrikers in the game, McGregor’s prowess was evident in the scintillating victories over Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, Chand Mendes, and others. Bisping has predicted that fans will see that kind of McGregor, but it remains to be seen.
