The UFC is one of the top MMA organizations worldwide, attracting athletes from all corners of the globe who dream of securing a contract. However, with great power comes great responsibility. UFC President Dana White works to keep the organization dominant in the MMA world, but fans and combat sports stars alike have criticized some of the rules enforced by the UFC. Recently, UFC legend Randy Couture blasted White for his control over the fighters.
Randy Couture recently expressed his views on the UFC’s apparent satisfaction with avoiding Champion vs. Champion fights, such as a potential matchup between Jon Jones from the UFC and Francis Ngannou from the PFL. Couture stated,
“Maybe we could create those Champion vs. Champion fights, but the UFC’s ego is too big to allow it. That’s why my fight with Fedor [Emelianenko] never happened—M-1 wanted a co-promotion, and the UFC wouldn’t agree. I don’t see a UFC champ ever getting the chance to fight a champ from PFL or any other organization, which is unfortunate.”
The former three-time heavyweight champion also remarked that it’s a shame fans will never get to see those kinds of matchups. He noted that this is one of the flaws and issues in the sport right now. While Dana White strives to deliver exciting fights for fans, obstacles related to fighters’ concerns often get in the way.
Dana White Explains Why Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou Fight Never Happened
When White appeared on the ClubShayShay Podcast, he explained why the super fight didn’t happen. He said that Ngannou was responsible for the fight falling through, as they did everything they could to arrange the matchup, but ‘The Predator’ was not willing to face Jones. Meanwhile, Jones was eager to fight Ngannou.

Ngannou has left the UFC and joined the PFL. Additionally, he later dismissed White’s claims, clarifying that he didn’t want to be locked into a new deal with the organization over the Jones fight.
This isn’t the first time Dana White has claimed that he did everything possible for the matchup, only for fighters to back out. Now that both fighters are in different organizations, fans are eager to see Jones vs. Ngannou, but it remains uncertain when, where, or if it will happen.
