There’s always talk of “what if” matchups in the fighting world. From Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson to Prime Fedor Emelianenko vs. Prime Brock Lesnar, fans love to speculate. Similarly, the current big hype is centered around the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall matchup. Everyone has their own biases—some believe it’s just another fight for Jones, while others think Aspinall poses a real threat. Meanwhile, when UFC legend Frank Mir was asked about the potential matchup, he didn’t hold back, clearly stating that he sees Jones dominating it.
In his recent interview with TalkSport, Mir stated that Jones had nothing to gain from the fight. However, if Aspinall wins, it will solidify his legacy and put his name among the GOATs. When asked about his prediction, Mir clearly sees Jones winning this match and gives him a “90% chance.”
He stated, “Tom could win but at the end of the day, if you said put my money down on it if they fought this year or within 12 months from now, I think Jon has about a 70% to 80%, 90% chance of winning that fight.”
There is no doubt that Mir stated Aspinall has everything to win in this Jones matchup. However, it’s not like the UFC champion ‘Bones‘ doesn’t have anything to gain from a win over the interim champ. It could end any talk of him avoiding a fight. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how this matchup would turn out where everyone has their own predictions.
Daniel Cormier Suggests Jon Jones Should Avoid ‘Dangerous’ Tom Aspinall for His Own Good
In a recent YouTube video, Cormier shared his view that Jon Jones should avoid fighting Tom Aspinall, as it might not be the best move for the champ. Despite Aspinall’s efforts to secure a title shot with his regular mockery and building hype, the UFC seems to have given it to Stipe Miocic instead. Right now, DC believes Aspinall is the biggest threat to Jones in the heavyweight division.
He said, “I don’t know if it’s in Jon’s best interest to take this fight. Because this kid is young, this kid is excited, this kid wants everything that he has had and that makes him dangerous.”
