Robert Whittaker might have lost his previous match. But there is still a chance that the ‘Reaper’ can make a dominant comeback. Trying to fight for the middleweight title, Whittaker faced off against Khamzat Chimaev in UFC 308. Unfortunately for Whittaker, things did not go according to plan. Submitting early on in the fight, the ‘Reaper’ looked well out of the main scheme of things at the moment.
However, there is still a way out for the former middleweight champion. Speaking about the future possibilities of the 34-year-old, UFC insider Chael Sonnen stated that a change in division might help him. “I’m completely for [in favor of] that idea [Whittaker moving up to light heavyweight]… Whittaker is getting to that point where he might start to sense its reality [that he isn’t as fast as he used to be earlier because of age],” Sonnen said.
The ‘Bad Guy’ also stated that a better way to mask sluggishness inside the octagon was to move up in weight. However, despite the advice, it is not yet clear whether the Aussie will be keen to do the same. Meanwhile, suffering a brutal blow in UFC 308, Whittaker recently detailed his experience with Khamzat Chimaev.

Unfortunately, it was the lightning fast takedown from Chimaev that caused all sorts of problems. “But then the dude drops to like a millimeter – how do you stop that takedown, guy?” opined Whittaker. Thus, with his future uncertain, it remains to be seen which path the former middleweight champion will follow.
