The Middleweight division went into a frenzy when Israel Adesanya lost his title to Sean Strickland last year. Since then the Middleweight strap has never been defended in the octagon. The UFC co-main event will see the two biggest UFC middleweights colliding in the cage. Former champion Sean Strickland is set to take on the Brazilian great Paulo Costa.
A certain UFC Legend was spotted discussing Paulo Costa’s slow rise in the company’s Middleweight division. He gave out a rather peculiar reason for the same.
UFC Legend on Paulo Costa as a Middleweight
Michael Bisping is the first Englishman to acquire the UFC gold in the cage. He had one of the most treacherous paths to a UFC title. The English great is well aware of what it takes to rise up to the absolute top of any UFC division. Michael Bisping, on his YouTube channel, gave out why Paulo Costa is rising slowly in the cage on his YouTube channel. He said,
The one thing that has really slowed the progress of Paulo Costa is the fact that he hardly ever fights.
Michael Bisping made it clear that the only reason Costa finds it hard to reach the top is his inactivity in the octagon. Costa is not as active as other fighters in his division, and Bisping believes that is exactly why he has only landed one title shot in his career in the cage. Costa, known for his explosiveness, is known for scrapping inside the cage only once a year.
Costa last fought against Robert Whittaker in the UFC 299 main card. Before that, he took on LKuke Rockhold almost two years back in the cage. Paulo did not enter the octagon last year. The Brazilian kickboxer will want to get back into the win column to find his way back to a title. The fight against Sean Strickland is a tricky one as the former champion is a versatile and seasoned striker himself.
