Chael Sonnen Calls For Bo Nickal vs. Khamzat Chimaev Showdown
In an interview with Helen Yee, Chael Sonnen used Kai Asakura’s unranked debut leading to a title shot as an example to push for a fight between Bo Nickal and Khamzat Chimaev. He argued that rankings don’t matter, citing how the flyweight title fight was booked.
“I want to see Chimaev vs. Bo Nickal, but we don’t get to see it. Because Bo is not ranked….Asakura is not ranked at all…He is not ranked….So if we can all agree to follow the rules that we make up as we go, rankings don’t matter,” Sonnen said.
Sonnen urged fans to rally behind the Nickal-Chimaev matchup, calling it a must-see fight. On Chimaev’s title chances, he noted that Sean Strickland’s title defense comes first, with Chimaev likely next in line.
