The UFC event at the Bell Arena in Denver, Colorado, saw some drama during the official weigh-ins as Tracy Cortez missed weight. UFC Denver features a fight between former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and rising flyweight contender Tracy Cortez.
The official weigh-in for the event had some unexpected developments. Namajunas weighed in at 124.75 pounds. Cortez, among the final fighters to weigh in, initially stepped on the scale at 127 pounds while clothed and 126.5 pounds after removing her clothes.
Furthermore, Cortez was granted an additional hour to shed the excess weight. Determined to lessen her weight, Cortez returned to the scale shortly after and took the drastic measure of cutting off her hair to shed the final ounces. She officially weighed in at 126 pounds, making the fight with Namajunas official.
UFC Denver Main Card fights
The upcoming UFC event on July 13, 2024, at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, will feature a revised main event. Former strawweight champion Namajunas was originally slated to fight Maycee Barber, but she had to withdraw due to health issues. Cortez was then announced as the replacement to face Namajunas in the headlining women’s flyweight bout.
In addition to the main attraction, the card will showcase an intriguing lightweight matchup between Drew Dober and Mike Davis. Dober enters the fight with an impressive 27-13-0 record, while Davis holds an 11-2-0 record. Davis was initially scheduled to fight Jean Silva at UFC 303 but had to pull out due to a torn bicep. Silva, who had competed just two weeks prior, stepped in as the replacement.
