Usman Nurmagomedov, the unbeaten lightweight champion of Bellator, is, in the opinion of American Kickboxing Academy coach Javier Mendez, the most gifted fighter he has ever worked with, even more skilled than Khabib Nurmagomedov. Mendez stated that as long as he and Khabib can keep Usman mentally focused, he will continue to be at the top of the sport for the foreseeable future.
As a coach at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), Javier Mendez has had the privilege of training some of the best mixed martial arts competitors in history. Mendez still has a fantastic group of athletes in the gym, even though he is no longer spending his time training competitors like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier, and Cain Velasquez for their fights.

Khabib Nurmagomedov had three successful title defences against elite lightweight challengers under his illustrious UFC unbeaten record. After becoming victorious in the 2018 contest for the vacant lightweight title, he was crowned champion and retired in 2021.
