Jon Jones is putting in intense training for his return, sharing workout videos on social media that have fans buzzing. The UFC heavyweight champion is also preparing some extraordinary moves for his comeback fight against Stipe Miocic. Jones will defend his heavyweight title against Miocic in the main event of UFC 309 on November 16.
In his upcoming title defense, ‘Bones’ has been honing his 12-6 elbow strikes. This move, which was banned until November, is now legal, meaning fans could soon see Jones put it into action. Fortunately for Jones, the UFC’s updated ruleset took effect at the start of November, allowing the 12-6 elbow as a legal strike both standing and on the ground. In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, Jones shared:
“I’ve been training extensively on different 12-6 elbow attacks. It’s funny because it’s been such a big no-no move, so you train yourself not to go there, and now to be able to use that strike, I mean, it’s a very damaging strike. It just opens up so many more options both on the feet and (on the ground).”
Jones’ only career loss came in 2013 when he was disqualified for an illegal elbow against Matt Hamill. Since then, UFC CEO Dana White has been working to get the result changed to a no-contest. With the new rule legalizing the move, Jones might finally see his record revised.

In a recent online exchange, the 37-year-old hinted at stepping away from the sport after this year, saying on Instagram, “Fun fact after this year Jon Jones will never have to work again, retired at age 37.” Fans have also questioned why Jones isn’t interested in facing Tom Aspinall, a top contender for his heavyweight title, speculating that he might be avoiding the interim champ.
