UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley is uncertain about his next fight. O’Malley’s upcoming challenger is expected to be Merab Dvalishvili, the No. 1-ranked bantamweight contender. Although no date has been confirmed for his next appearance in the octagon, The American MMA fighter has already begun his training camp in anticipation.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Sean O’Malley mentioned that he expects to fight at The Sphere in Las Vegas this September or on a December card.
“Honest to God I have not heard from the UFC yet, and we’re getting too damn close [to The Sphere show].” he added, “I’m in camp right now just in case. It’s a little over nine weeks out. I’m in camp now just in case. “I’m still hoping for The Sphere. It’s still the same – Sphere or December. I’m pretty sure either way it’s going to be in Vegas, which I’m pumped about, to go back to Vegas and fight”, O’Malley said.
The Sphere, Dana keeps saying it’s going to be something crazy,” he said. “You’ve got Conor and Chandler, you’ve got Max vs. Ilia , you’ve got me vs. Merab. You’ve got some pretty big fights to make”, the 29-year-old added.
Who Is Next for Sean O’Malley?
O’Malley won the bantamweight belt after knocking out Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 last year. He defended his title for the first time against Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 299. Now, he’s likely to face top contender Merab Dvalishvili. Although O’Malley had a feud with Featherweight titleholder Ilia Topuria, the latter could fight Max Holloway next, so O’Malley will probably have to fight Merab.
With Merab’s strong wrestling skills and O’Malley’s exceptional striking power, this matchup promises to be exciting.
