The UFC 305 on August 17 will delight the combats fans with Israel Adesanya taking on Dricus Du Plessis to claim the middleweight title. Interestingly, the Kiwi fighter has found an unexpected admirer – his former rival, Alex Pereira. Despite being part of one of the most popular rivalries in the combat sport, the ‘Poatan’ openly backed Adesanya in his next fight.
Although Adesanya lost his last UFC bout against Sean Strickland in 2023, he will have high hopes with his big fight with Du Plessis this coming August. And so do Pereira hope. In a recent video on his official YouTube channel, the ‘Poatan’ said,
Pereira said, “I hope (Israel Adesanya) wins because he has a beautiful story. I’m here; I’m supporting him. I already fought him, and I am not going to say he should lose. I’m not mad at him, no grudges. Like I said, if one day it’s possible to train with him, exchanging knowledge.”
Notably, Alex Pereira has only one defeat in his UFC career, which came against Israel Adesanya. Their rivalry dates back to their days in the Glory Kickboxing organization. After two kickboxing matches and one UFC title fight, Adesanya finally secured victory against Pereira at UFC 287 in April 2023, reclaiming the middleweight championship and securing his first win in their four-fight series.
