UFC 309 turned out to be one of the biggest events of the year. According to UFC CEO Dana White, the pay-per-view generated an impressive $16.67 million in live gate revenue. This record-breaking figure highlights the excitement surrounding Jon Jones’ comeback fight, which surpassed the previous gate record set by UFC 300. However, not everything went smoothly at UFC 309, as several fighters faced setbacks. Some suffered injuries during their bouts, leading to medical suspensions.
The medical suspension for UFC 309 has been revealed. The New York State Athletic Commission issued mandatory suspensions to all UFC 309 fighters, with the longest being 90 days for four competitors. James Llontop received 90 days and neurology clearance after his war with Mauricio Ruffy.
Jhonata Diniz also got 90 days and primary care clearance following his prelims loss to Marcin Tybura. Mickey Gall and Bassil Hafez earned similar suspensions and neurology clearance after knockout losses to Ramiz Brahijaj and Oban Elliott, respectively.
Former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic received a 60-day suspension with primary care clearance after his knockout loss to Jon Jones from a spinning back kick. Despite rumors, Miocic’s team confirmed he suffered no major injuries beyond a facial cut. His suspension is largely irrelevant, as he retired following the fight. Despite the injuries many fighters sustained, several still earned significant purses from the event.
