A fighter in the UFC usually steps into the octagon at least two times a year. MMA might be one of the most brutal sports ever, as it’s no child’s play to step into the octagon multiple times in a calendar year. Islam Makhachev became the UFC champion in 2022. Since then, he has gone on to defend his title two times in the company. Surprisingly, former champion Max Holloway still called out the Dagestani, who was set to fight in UFC 300, for being inactive.
Max Holloway, who is taking on Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, lashed out at Islam for not being more active inside the octagon. Islam certainly did not like Max’s claims and clapped back.
Islam Makhachev fires back at Max Holloway ahead of UFC 300
Max Holloway is riding high on confidence before his bout against Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt at UFC 300. He didn’t think twice before calling out Islam Makhachev, the lightweight division champion, in the pre-fight conference. He criticized the lightweight king for not being very active in the UFC. Islam replied,
For the record: since 2021 I fought 7 times, while Holloway did 5 fights and Justin just 4. Do your homework before talking trash about your champ 🙂
Islam made it clear that he is not the inactive one. He attacked Max with facts. Islam pointed out that he had fought seven times in the company since the beginning of the decade, whereas Max and Justin had fought five and four times, respectively. Islam Makhachev has previously claimed that he wants to be very active in defending the lightweight crown.
Max stated in an interview that he wants to take on Islam after he beats Justin Gaethje. Many would agree that Makhachev would be the clear favorite. It’ll be interesting to see if Max will be willing to take on Islam if he beats Justin Gaethje. Justin currently sits as the heavy favorite to beat the former featherweight champion of the world. Holloway’s fans would be willing for Max to cause a massive upset and knock Justin out at UFC 300.
