UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has slammed the upcoming BMF title matchup.
The promotion’s historic UFC 300 is just about a month away. While the card will be headlined by a light heavyweight championship between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, Justin Gaethje will defend his BMF title on the card against Max Holloway.
The fight between Gaethje and Holloway is being eagerly looked up to by fans as both fighters promise to bring a lot of action inside the octagon. However, not everyone is pleased with the fight. One of those happens to be Islam Makhachev.
During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, the UFC lightweight champion was asked to give his thoughts about the upcoming BMF title fight at UFC 300. According to Islam Makhachev, the fight is completely useless. He said:
“This is a useless fight for a useless belt and nobody gains anything from this fight”

Islam Makhachev wants to fight Dustin Poirier in June
Islam Makhachev has been out of action since his fight against Alexander Volkanovski in October last year. Since then he has been eagerly waiting to return. However, with Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveria booked for their respective fights at UFC 300, he doesn’t have a lot of options.
As a result, he might end up facing Dustin Poirier in June. Poirier was recently seen in action against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. Having walked into the fight as an underdog Poirier put on an amazing performance and secured a second-round knockout victory.
Following the fight Islam Makhachev seemingly called out Dustin Poirier. It is worth noting that the UFC lightweight champion does not think of Poirier as a worthy contender however he is willing to face ‘The Diamond’ as he wants to return to action as soon as possible.
That said, it will be interesting to see if the UFC does end up making Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier for the lightweight championship or not.
