In the co-main event of UFC 299 on Saturday, rising lightweight contender Benoit Saint-Denis will square off against seasoned fighter Dustin Poirier.
Although UFC CEO Dana White had announced the bout a few weeks before, Poirier (29-8 MMA, 21-7 UFC) informed MMA Junkie that he had never formally signed a contract and that the fight against Saint-Denis (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was off around a month before the event. Later, Poirier declared that the post was a “misunderstanding” and that the fight was on.
Currently riding a five-bout winning streak, Benoit Saint-Denis has won every fight via stoppage. In November, he decisively defeated Matt Frevola in his most recent fight. This weekend, Saint-Denis plans to continue the violent train.

Benoit Saint-Denis’s Coach Challenges Jon Jones, as Benoit Saint-Denis Praises Dustin Poirier Ahead Of UFC 299
In the forthcoming UFC 299 co-main event match, fan favourite Dustin Poirier, a lightweight in the UFC, is expected to have an uphill battle against dangerous UFC prospect Benoit Saint-Denis. Poirier is the betting underdog going into the bout because of the Frenchman’s majority of advantages, which include age, size, reach, and recent form.
As, per an Instagram post posted by mma.pros.pick Benoit Saint-Denis said, “ I started MMA in 2018. When I began MMA, he was fighting Khabib for the lightweight title”.

With 29 UFC bouts under his belt, “The Diamond” holds a far higher ranking in the lightweight class at #3 than “BSD’s” #12. Furthermore, even though Poirier has dropped his previous two fights out of a possible three, since capturing the interim lightweight title in 2019, he has only faced opponents ranked in the top five.
When asked about Poirier’s training partners, Saint-Denis’ coach seemed unconcerned and responded that the Louisiana native could bring in Jon Jones, who is widely regarded as the greatest of all time, as a training partner, but that wouldn’t affect the fight’s outcome.
