Cutting weight is one of the toughest challenges in MMA. Many fighters have been forced to withdraw from fights after failing to gain weight. However, at the upcoming UFC 312, every fighter successfully hit their mark. The event is headlined by Dricus du Plessis vs. Sean Strickland for the middleweight title. Surprisingly, though, two fights were still canceled.
Just minutes before the official weigh-in session began, officials canceled two early preliminary card fights. Officials removed HyunSung Park vs. Nyamjargal Tumendemberel and Rei Tsuruya vs. Stewart Nicoll from the card without providing a reason. Despite this, all fighters successfully gained weight. In the main event, middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland both weighed 185 pounds, while strawweight champ Zhang Weili (115) faced Tatiana Suarez (114.5).
Heavyweights Justin Tafa (266) and Tallison Teixeira (263) made weight, as did Rodolfo Bellato (205) and Jimmy Crute (206) in the light heavyweight division. Jake Matthews and Francisco Prado both came in at 170.5 pounds for their welterweight bout.
On the prelims, Jack Jenkins (146) takes on Gabriel Santos (145.5), Viacheslav Borshchev (156) meets Tom Nolan (155.5), and Bruna Brasil (125.5) faces Wang Cong (125). Colby Thicknesse and Aleksandre Topuria both hit 135.5 pounds for their bantamweight clash. The early prelims feature Kody Steele vs. Rong Zhu (156), Kevin Jousset vs. Jonathan Micallef (171), and Anshul Jubli vs. Quillan Salkilld (155.5, 156).
