Tom Aspinall isn’t pulling any punches outside the octagon. He recently shared his candid thoughts on Jon Jones’ next fight. The interim heavyweight champ’s comments came after his impressive 60-second knockout of Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. With that win, he solidified his position as a top contender in the division. However, instead of facing Aspinall, Jones is set to fight Stipe Miocic in November.
This decision has left Aspinall feeling a bit left out. The British fighter didn’t mince words when discussing Jones’ choice of opponent. He believed that Jones was intentionally fighting Miocic and avoiding him.
“Of course, Jon Jones is not an idiot…Stipe, one of the best heavyweights if not the best heavyweight of all-time. Stipe’s also 43 years old, coming off a three-year layoff, and his last fight was a knockout loss. Obviously, he’s going to want to take that fight before me because it’s easier. Way, way, way easier. He knows that I’m the tougher fight for him,” said Aspinall via MMA Fighting.
Aspinall’s logic is hard to argue with. Miocic, while a legend, is 43 years old. He’s also coming off a three-year layoff and a knockout loss in his last fight. Aspinall was quick to point out that he was not calling Jones because he was scared. The interim champ believes Jones is simply being smart in his approach.
Aspinall’s record speaks for itself. He boasts an impressive 8-1 UFC record with eight finishes. Only one opponent has made it past the first round with him. These stats make Aspinall sound like a video game character with maxed-out stats. It makes fans wonder whether Jones is deliberately trying to keep Aspinall at bay while fighting Miocic.

Aspinall is known for his candid and calm approach. He emphatically supported the cut fighter and hoped that the UFC would re-sign him. At the same time, the British heavyweight suggested that Mokaev’s actions may have led to consequences.
“It’s not great, is it, mate? Let’s be honest. It’s a bad spot for him to be in. I would say, if you act like that, then you’re gonna get consequences…But there’s [people] like that every time, you know what I mean? People are people. It’s just a shame for Muhammad [Mokaev]. I hope they give him, you know, another chance,” said Aspinall via Sky Sports.
Aspinall hinted at some behind-the-scenes issues with Mokaev that the public isn’t aware of. It seems there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Interestingly, Mokaev himself responded to Aspinall’s comments on social media. He simply wrote, “Appreciate the support, brother .” It’s a reminder of the precarious nature of a fighter’s career. One day, a fighter is on top; the next, they are out of the promotion.
