Tom Aspinall has been quietly carving out his own path to greatness. This Manchester-born bruiser has been patiently waiting in the wings, ready to step up and show the world that he’s more than just an interim champion. He is the kind of guy who will answer the call, no matter who’s standing on the other side of the cage. And he might get that chance come UFC 309.
In a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, Aspinall pulled back the curtain on his mindset. He seemed calm when asked about the possibility of facing either Jones or Miocic on short notice. The interim champion seemed confident in talking on either heavyweight.
“I’m ready to go, if they want me to jump in, I can definitely jump in now. I’m on good shape, I’ve been preparing for it. Obviously it’s difficult because I’ve not been preparing for one guy. But I am fit. I’m ready to go, so if they need me I will jump in.”
Tom Aspinall has been putting in the work, staying in shape, and waiting for his moment to shine. And he already holds an interim title. So, this isn’t some newcomer looking to make a name for himself; this is a proven finisher who’s hungry to cement his place among the division’s elite.
The Brit is not hyping up his potential fight, nor does he think that either of the main event fighters would back out. But, just in case that happens, Aspinall is ready to jump in a heartbeat’s notice to save the UFC 309 main event.

Tom Aspinall recently spoke with Red Corner MMA and discussed what he believes is Miocic’s best path to victory when he faces Jones at UFC 309. According to the 30-year-old Brit, it all comes down to a straightforward strategy. Do what heavyweights do best.
“It’s pretty simple, punch him in the face really hard. That’s the way he’s [Stipe] gonna win. Stipe has got a lot of knockouts on his record. We don’t know if Jones’ power, he’s not really known for his power anyway, how does that look at heavyweight?”
The former heavyweight champ has built a reputation as one of the division’s most devastating punchers. He has 15 KO/TKO victories on his resume, and at 42 years old, he’s showing no signs of losing that power.
