Jon Jones silenced any doubts about his skills at UFC 309, proving no fighter in UFC history has cleared big names like him. In just three rounds, he dominated legendary heavyweight Stipe Miocic, solidifying his legacy. Despite the one-sided performance, UFC heavyweight Interim Champ Tom Aspinall remained unimpressed. He pointed out weaknesses in Jones’ game plan, suggesting that the champion’s approach still has exploitable flaws.
Tom Aspinall attended UFC 309 as the backup fighter and watched the main event from the octagon side. During the ESPN MMA post-show, he analyzed Jon Jones’ victory over Stipe Miocic and shared his insights. He identified quick eyes and reactions as essential to defeating Jones, qualities he believed Miocic lacked. Observing the fight closely, Aspinall spotted openings in Jones’ game. He said that watching live gave him details that were often missed on TV.
He stated, “I see everything… Whether I can do it in there, you know Jon Jones is arguably the best to ever do it, but I definitely see openings. Whether I can do it myself, I don’t know, but from the outside looking in, I think I can.”

“The speed [stood out]. There’s no chance that he can – I don’t want to say too much.”

Talking about the weakness, he pointed out speed as a potential disadvantage for Jones but chose not to elaborate further, hinting there might be more to say without revealing too much. It seems he doesn’t want to disclose it before the potential fight against him.
Jon Jones Demands UFC Match Against Alex Pereira for His Return
Dana White has made it clear that the winner of Jones vs. Miocic must fight Tom Aspinall next. However, Jones seems determined to avoid a showdown with Aspinall despite winning. In the UFC 309 post-fight press conference, when reporters asked about the potential matchup, Jones expressed more interest in facing UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira instead.
“I’m not really worried about the Tom fight. I’m worried about the Pereira fight. That’s what I want to do. I think if the UFC wants to have me back, I think that’s the fight they’ll make. I’ve been very clear about my intentions,” he stated.

Jones added that he no longer wants to fight dangerous up-and-coming fighters. Instead, he prefers facing established champions. He even stated that Aspinall can have the heavyweight title and that he doesn’t care about it. What he really wants is a fight with Pereira.
