Tom Aspinall, the interim champ with fists of fury and a wit to match, has been making waves lately. The long-awaited showdown between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is on the horizon, and Aspinall is ready for his chance at the heavyweight gold.
The British fighter has thrown his hat into the ring as a potential backup fighter. Aspinall spilled the beans in a recent episode of Fight Lab. He is ready for a November showdown and is confident in his ability to take the title if the opportunity presents itself.
“I just want my chance to fight for the undisputed title. Of course, that’s the next natural progression [from interim] and also, it’s a dream fight for me so obviously I’m going to push for it. We’re still waiting and still training with that in mind; as far as I am concerned, I am training to fight potentially in November so no matter what happens, I’ll be fit and ready to go in November,” said Aspinall.
Aspinall is training for a November fight. That is when the Jones-Miocic clash is rumored to go down. He is pretty confident that he will be the backup fighter if needed for the heavyweight title fight.
Tom Aspinall’s story is a testament to the unpredictable nature of MMA. He has been the interim champion for close to a year, defended the interim belt, and still has no title fight in sight. But he could get his lucky break if Stipe Miocic pulls out of the potential fight against Jon Jones.

Jon Jones, the current heavyweight champ, seems to have other plans. And Aspinall is not pulling any punches with his opinion on the matter. He believes that Jones wants to take on easy fights to pad his record.
”He [Jones] wants the easy fight, Stipe [Miocic], for now, But I have the faith. Jon’s getting a bit ticked off with me at the minute, which is my intention… It seems that Jon is getting a little bit fuming with me so that’ll be nice if he continues that,” said Aspinall via Fight Lab.
Tom Aspinall is banking on Jones’ pride to be his Achilles’ heel. He hopes that Jones will bite back and finally decide to fight him. It’s a risky game for Aspinall. But in the world of MMA, sometimes fighters have to risk it for the reward, in this case, the heavyweight title.
