The Heavyweight division has always been iconic in the UFC. Over the years, We have seen many knockout artists in the division. Currently, the division is ruled by Jon Jones, who is all set to take on Stipe Miocic in the octagon. The interim champion of the Heavyweight division, Tom Aspinall, will defend his interim title against Curtis Blaydes in Manchester. Recently, Aspinall opened up on the diminishing possibility of him taking on Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall called out Jon Jones in the octagon several times in the cage. But as it turns out, he no longer fights Jones in the octagon.
Tom Aspinall on legacy
Heavyweight great Tom Aspinall has taken on many Heavyweight greats in the octagon and won most of his bouts in the cage. He is all set to take on Curtis Blaydes, who happens to be one of the most versatile fighters in the octagon. Before defending his interim title, Aspinall gave a rather interesting statement about his MMA legacy. Aspinall said,
I am here to create my own legacy, and I don’t need Jon Jones to do that
Tom Aspinall made it clear he is all right with the fact that he might never fight Jon Jones, the man who is regarded as the greatest fighter in the sport’s history. The Englishman is surely one of the better fighters on the UFC roster, but Jon Jones is a different breed of fighter who has won every fight in the last decade. Aspinall will need a high fight IQ to win against Jon if he’s ever lucky enough to fight him.
Jon has expressed no interest in fighting for the English interim champion. As much as the MMA world would love to see Jon take on Tom in the octagon, that fight might not happen as, according to many reports, Jones might call it a career if he secures a victory over Stipe Miocic.
