Tom Aspinall has been vocal about Jon Jones’ reluctance to face him in the octagon. With Jones being the reigning UFC heavyweight champion and Aspinall the interim titleholder, a unification bout between the two seems like a natural next step. However, ‘Bones’ has made it clear that he prefers to fight Alex Pereira instead of the young and hungry Aspinall.
In a recent interview with mainevent, Aspinall didn’t mince words when addressing Jones’ tactics. He called out the champion’s “ducking and diving” and questioned the reasoning behind his decision to not fight him.
“I don’t know what he wants me to do. He wants me to fight more champions. And I’m like, ‘Bro, you are the champion! and you won’t fight me.’ So what am I supposed to do? I have no options. So they’re going to say anything to not fight me basically.”
Aspinall went on to say that Jones was “trying to sway the opinions of the public.” According to him, this was to make it seem like it made sense for him to fight Pereira instead. The Brit believes there will be people who will buy into his reasoning. But Tom Aspinall isn’t having it. He’s not interested in Jones’ legacy or resume; he just wants the heavyweight title, regardless of who holds it.
It’s an interesting dynamic between the two fighters. Jones, who is nearing the end of his illustrious career, seems to be more concerned about his legacy than taking on the toughest challenges. Aspinall, on the other hand, is hungry to prove himself and become the undisputed heavyweight champion. He’s not intimidated by Jones’ accomplishments and is determined to make his own mark on the sport.
Tom Aspinall Is Ready To Take On Either Fighter At UFC 309 Main Event
Aspinall is the backup fighter for the main event of the UFC 309 fight between Jones and Stipe Miocic. The Interim heavyweight champion made it clear that he is ready to step up and face either of these fighters. He has been patiently biding his time, waiting for his chance to shine on the biggest stage.

In a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, Aspinall expressed his willingness to jump in and fight either should the need arise. Despite not having prepared specifically for either Jones or Miocic, Aspinall is confident in his abilities, stating that he was fit and ready to go.
“I’m ready to go, if they want me to jump in, I can definitely jump in now. I’m on good shape, I’ve been preparing for it. Obviously it’s difficult because I’ve not been preparing for one guy. But I am fit. I’m ready to go, so if they need me I will jump in.”
Tom Aspinall knows that this is his opportunity to prove he belongs at the top of the division. He’s not one to shy away from a challenge, and facing either the reigning champion Jones or the seasoned veteran Miocic would be a true test of his skills.
