As the UFC 304 approaches, the welterweight division buzzes with excitement and drama. Several fighters have lined up to take their picks off the card. However, former welterweight interim champion Colby Covington recently called out one of the fighters on the card – Belal Muhammad.
Belal Muhammad is set to headline arguably the greatest fight of his career. But he has more than just his upcoming fight on his mind. Covington, a perennial contender, called out Muhammad for a potential matchup. But Muhammad’s response was far from enthusiastic. In fact, it was downright dismissive.
“That was honestly the funniest thing…This guy’s a joke now. So he’s trying to go out there and call out these bigger names now. He’s calling out me, he’s calling out [Charles] Oliveira. Ian Garry’s not worth it. Why, because Ian Garry’s a bad matchup for you?” stated Muhammad via MMA Fighting.
Muhammad straight-up described Covington’s current status as a joke in the division. The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on Muhammad or MMA fans. Muhammad had been the one calling out Covington for years, to no avail. Now that the tables have turned, ‘Remember The Name’ isn’t feeling particularly generous.
The Palestinian-American fighter is coming off a win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 288. This extended his win streak to 9. His first match against Leon Edwards ended in a No Contest after the latter delivered an unintentional eye poke.
Covington, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to Edwards. He is 2-3 in his last five fights. For now, Muhammad’s sights are set on UFC gold. As far as Covington is concerned, it seems he will have to wait his turn or perhaps find another willing dance partner.
Belal Muhammad Urges Colby Covington To Hang Up The Gloves
UFC fighters are never short on drama or strong opinions. Muhammad, who is gearing up for his title shot, has some choice words for Colby Covington ahead of his first title shot. Notably, he is set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 304.

‘Remember The Name’ didn’t talk too kindly about Covington in a recent interview with The Schmo. He believes its time for ‘Chaos’ to call it quits on his fighting career.
“Honestly, Colby Covington just needs to retire, there’s literally nothing left for him. He’s still trying to attach his glory days to three or four years ago when they thought he was good, but I think everyone figured out now that he sucks,” Muhammad said.
Belal Muhammad thinks that Colby Covington’s time in the spotlight has passed. He used Covington’s recent performance against Leon Edwards as proof of his reasoning. ‘Chaos’ saw himself fall short in his third bid for undisputed gold. The American fighter heeding Muhammad’s advice is highly unlikely. But fans are in for a treat if these two somehow end up opposite each other in the Octagon.
