The UFC has made mixed martial arts a global sport. In its three decades, the UFC has become a household name and amassed millions of fans worldwide. The company has conducted major PPV events on five continents, which has helped it immensely in gaining popularity. The game has evolved into what it is right now.
On the latest Joe Rogan podcast episode, Rogan’s guest was spotted elaborating on the old-school UFC back in the day when it began three decades ago.
Tank Abbott Speaks About Old School UFC
Joe Rogan hosted former MMA fighter Tank Abbott on his show recently. The duo got involved in a conversation about various things ranging from modern-day MMA to UFC events in the 1990s. Abbott gave the viewers an interesting insight into what it was like to compete in the cage three decades back. Abbott, on the Joe Rogan Experience, said,
There were no rules. All they had to do was give him a starting gun and he could stand there and go boom.
Abbott made it clear that everything used to go in the UFC back in the day. Abbott and Joe Rogan were spotted viewing a clip where Tank was in a grueling grappling exchange with his opponent, and the referee came in between and separated the two fighters. Tank revealed that there were no time limits and no rounds in the old-school UFC.
Modern-day MMA has three and five rounds for regular and championship fights. Each round is five minutes, and the old-timers were not interested in the rules and regulations. Abbott made a rather interesting revelation on the podcast about how mixed martial arts used to take place back in the day. It would be intriguing to imagine how the fights would take place today without time limits and rounds.
