Amanda Nunes, the former UFC champion in two weight classes, announced her retirement after a commanding victory over Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in Vancouver, B.C., where she retained her bantamweight title. Nunes retired last June after defeating all her competitors, but UFC CEO Dana White has hinted at a possible comeback.
Dana White Signals Potential Return for Amanda Nunes Ahead of UFC Saudi Arabia
Dana White, speaking on the Club Shay Shay podcast ahead of UFC’s inaugural event in Saudi Arabia, hinted at the potential return of Amanda Nunes.
“She could come back, there’s a possibility she could come back. Again, a very unique individual in her own right. A very powerful woman who is looked at as the female GOAT now”, the UFC President said.
Rumors were circulating among fans that a fight between Harrison and Nunes was being considered to replace Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler as the main event for UFC 303. However, these rumors turned out to be false.
Despite the false rumors, UFC president Dana White has admitted that Nunes could potentially return to the UFC. Nunes, who is 36 years old, retired from the UFC last year but has continued to train with a select few fighters.
There has been no official confirmation on Nunes’ return to the UFC, but it seems White is open to the possibility. Fans are likely eagerly awaiting any news on whether the former women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion will decide to come out of retirement and compete in the UFC again.
