UFC 303 hyped the combat sports fans for Pereira vs. Prochazka 2. But just four hours before the event, they came up with the most bizarre decision ever! They somehow convinced Dan Ige to step foot inside the octagon and fight the Catchweight division’s Diego Lopes. And guess what? the American accepted the fight on short notice and lit up the entire arena with his breathtaking performance.
Despite picking up some minor injuries during his fight against Diego, the 32-year-old American can still make his comeback in merely a few months. Although he was initially part of the UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas on July 20, it seems that he will miss his bout against Chepe Mariscal. But that’s not all for Ige! He could potentially return at the UFC 306 in Sphere, also known as Noche UFC.
While speaking on the MMA Fighting podcast, Ige recalled the historic shortest-notice fight against Diego at UFC 303. Since Dana White has already approved another Diego vs. Ige bout, the 32-year-old American has also expressed his faith in the MMA promotion.
“I guess we’ve just got to sit and wait and see what happens. The UFC is clever and obviously they do their job very well and can get shit done in four hours, so they can make something happen, and I’m just going to trust whatever they’re doing. We’ll see what happens from here on out.”
Dan Ige Reveals Having Mutual Respect For Diego Lopes
Had he not entered the octagon on June 30, Ige would have been gearing up for his fight with Mariscal at UFC Night Card! But what’s done is done. His brave decision to step up against Lopes at UFC 303 may have cost him a sore leg right now, but he still has immense respect for the Brazilian fighter.
Speaking of his UFC 303 fight, Ige said, “He has a tremendous amount of respect for me, as I do for him.” The comments came when he was asked if he would face the Brazilian again in the future.
Can Dan Ige make a comeback at UFC 306? Will Dana White match him up with Diego Lopes? Too many questions. But all the combat fans can do is just wait and watch!
