UFC 303 is around the corner, with Alex Pereira set to defend his belt against former rival Jiri Procházka. Meanwhile, the division Pereira has dominated is buzzing with the hype of Dricus Du Plessis, who is set to fight at UFC 305. The question of Du Plessis defending the belt is still up in the air, but it seems the South African fighter also has his eye on his next target, Khamzat Chimaev.
Dricus Du Plessis Eyes Khamzat Chimaev Next After Israel Adesanya
UFC 305 is all about origins and the pride of being South African. That’s how both Dricus Du Plessis and Izzy see it. The feud, which ignited late last year, still has unfinished business. While it is to be seen who will hold the belt in the future, it seems like Du Plessis has a plan for the future. In a recent event, talking about his future plans, he stated:
“I would love to beat Adesanya, then beat Khamzat Chimaev. That’s how I see it in my head.”
While Chimaev is still recovering from the illness that caused him to withdraw from the recent Saudi event, Dricus Du Plessis envisions himself defeating the Chechen fighter. Not to mention, when talking about the middleweight division, Du Plessis’s view is that a win by Robert Whittaker over Chimaev doesn’t merit a title shot. So it is clear that ‘Borz’ is his first choice.
To get there, he needs to first beat Adesanya at UFC 305 on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia. Adesanya hasn’t fought since losing his title for the second time in a year to Sean Strickland in September 2023. And now it will be interesting to see if DDP can defend his title or if Izzy will reign supreme again.
