Prior to the bout, she told the MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca podcast (H/T Yahoo Sports) she expected Gillian to go for takedowns as it’s her instinct to take the fight to the mat in any situation. However, Robertson had been beaten on the floor before, having come up short in a first-round armbar loss to Mayra Bueno Silva in 2018.
“I’m very confident,” Ricci declared. “She has a lot of submissions but I also have a background in jiu-jitsu and judo and I’m quite confident in my ground game. I’m ready for everything. One of my goals is to master in all techniques in MMA, to be a complete fighter.”
