The UFC debate over the greatest of all time and the most dangerous knockout artist always leads to two names: Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. Fans and analysts choose sides based on their own biases, but when asked who would win in a potential showdown, former champion Stipe Miocic sided with his old rival. Despite Jones’ legendary skills, Miocic believes Ngannou’s raw power gives him the edge in a fight that could define heavyweight history.
For those who don’t know, Ngannou became the heavyweight champion at UFC 260 in March 2021 with a second-round knockout. In a chat with The Schmo, Miocic discussed Ngannou’s growth, emphasizing his raw power and evolving skill set. He noted that while Jones, one of the greatest ever, would likely use distance and grappling to his advantage, Ngannou’s ability to land a single devastating punch could instantly shift the fight. Miocic acknowledged that if Ngannou connects cleanly, the fight is as good as over.
He said, “Well, Francis, he has got great power, you know. He is getting better every fight. Jones is one of the best of all time. Francis always comes with a game plan but he also has thunder in his fists. I think Jon would keep his distance, do well get him down to the ground. But if Francis connects, its all over.”
The question of who would win between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou remains one of the biggest “what ifs” in UFC history. Fans debate it endlessly, often siding with their personal favorites. But regardless of opinions, both fighters have repeatedly proven they are among the greatest to ever step into the octagon.
Daniel Cormier Hails Jon Jones Despite The Differences
Jones and Cormier’s rivalry is one of the most storied in UFC history, making it rare to see Cormier praise his former opponent. However, time seems to have changed things. A few weeks before, on the DC & RC podcast, Clark pointed out that Jones started his career alongside legends like Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture yet remains a champion in an era ruled by fighters like Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall. Cormier couldn’t believe Jones’ incredible longevity.
Jon Jones has built a legendary career in the UFC, cementing his status as one of the sport’s greatest fighters. As calls for him to face Tom Aspinall continue to grow, the debate over his next move intensifies. With his future still uncertain, only time will reveal what’s next for the reigning champion.
