The continent of Australia has provided some of the best talent to the UFC. Be it the former pound for pound number one or be it the versatile Robert Whittaker. As it seems there is one more guy hailing from the Kangaroo land who is in possession of some serious grit and talent.
The same was in full display when the man in question gloved up in the UFC 299 pay-per-view. Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier heaped some heavy praise on this Australian.
Daniel Cormier gives massive props to the welterweight contender
Jack Della Maddalena had the task of beating the evergreen Gilbert Burns. Given Burns’ versatility on the ground and in the striking department, it was an uphill task to beat the former Jiu Jitsu world champion. Daniel Cormier was impressed by Jack’s grit to edge out a victory against his opponent. Cormier said,
Jack Della Maddalena, If he was not impressive enough on Saturday night we just found out that he broke his arm very early in that fight. And still finished Gilbert Burns. How impressed are you by the toughness now of Jack Della as you are impressed with his skillset.
It was noted that the 27 year-old broke his arm early against Gilbert. Despite of the adversity he faced he still got the finish versus Burns. Jack was taken down several times throughout the course of the fight with relative ease. But as it turns out the fight is not over until its over. He turned out to be a much better striker than his South American counterpart.
Although Jack might be one of the best boxers in the division some might doubt his grappling ability. In order to acquire the UFC gold one needs to go through some elite wrestlers and as things are it will be tough for Della Maddalena to cope up with guys like Usman, Leon, and Colby given their grappling pedigree.
