Frank Mir was nearly left for for dead during his Triad Combat “boxing” match last night against former IBF heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev.
The event pitted boxers against MMA specialists in a triangular ring with boxing rules but MMA gloves. And for the main event, Mir was placed in a match-up he clearly had not business being in.
It didn’t take long for Pulev to assert his dominance. He had the clearly outmatched Mir out on his feet with seconds remaining in the first round. It was pretty obvious that Mir’s night was done, but referee Dan Miragliotta must have been watching something else, as he was perfectly content with allowing the former UFC champion to lose a couple extra brain cells before finally stepping in and ending this madness.
Miragliotta had a few chances to stop the fight there, and at one point he actually appeared to throw Mir back into the corner so that he could continue to take a beating.
