Chris Weidman is a legend in the company’s Middleweight division. He reached the absolute top when he won the world Middleweight championship in the UFC. Weidman won his last outing via a controversial decision last month. The former champion, who also hosts the MMA program, was spotted expressing his shock over Alex Pereira becoming a two-division champion after the UFC 300 concluded.
Chris Weidman returned from his injury, which he suffered when he broke his leg against Uriah Hall in the first round of his bout.
Chris Weidman on Alex Pereira
Alex Pereira impressed many in the MMA world when he knocked out Jamahal Hill in the first round of his bout in the main event of UFC 300. Pereira became the first fighter to win against five champions in his first nine fights. Pereira showed everyone why he’s the favorite against almost every opponent in the company. Pereira made history as he joined the list of fighters who have won titles in two different divisions in the UFC. Weidman said,
It’s almost so crazy, and it’s such a deficiency based on what we’ve seen so far. It’s almost like Ben Askren coming to the UFC and being able to become a multiple-time champion with no hands.
Weidman expressed shock as he wondered about Alex Pereira becoming a champion at two divisions while being proficient in just one skill set. Pereira is an elite kickboxer but has questionable grappling credentials. This just shows that Pereira is a master of his craft and is probably the greatest kickboxing MMA fighter in the world. Pereira has many knockout weapons in his arsenal, having knocked out a couple of fighters in the octagon.
Pereira might be an elite kickboxer, but his opponents can still try to take him down into the cage. He was taken down by Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachiwiz, and Jiri Prochazka in his fights against them. If he ever meets a natural wrestler, he might have a tough time with the man inside the octagon. Alex has created history in his three years in the company. It’ll be interesting to see if he captures a title in the third division of the UFC.
