Fighters often rant about not getting title shots, lesser pay, or poor matchmaking. However, it seems Sean Strickland has found a whole new issue to vent about on social media regarding his upcoming fight. Meanwhile, reports suggest that ‘Tarzan’ could be the next challenger for Dricus Du Plessis’ title. Ahead of the official announcement, the American fighter voiced his unhappiness with the potential location of the fight, which appears to be in Australia, and shared the reasons for his rant.
Recently, Strickland took to X to express his frustration over his anticipated fight against Dricus Du Plessis. In his tweets, he implied that the UFC is playing games with him by scheduling fights in countries where the government strongly dislikes him. He also expressed his confusion over whether the UFC is messing with him or suggesting that he should promote freedom.
He said, “UFC event planning; ‘I have a great idea, let’s send Sean to go fight for a championship in foreign country where the government absolutely hates him.’ UFC are you f***ing with me or are you trying to tell me you want me to spread freedom?! I wonder at times.”
To give context, Strickland, famous for his blunt and unapologetic style, found that his last trip to Australia didn’t go smoothly. Given his strong political views and often outrageous interviews, it’s no surprise that he might ruffle the feathers of government officials who funded a tourism package for the UFC event. In the USA, people fully enjoy freedom of speech, but speaking out on certain topics can be problematic in some countries. Given this, the former UFC champ isn’t a fan of fighting at those places.
Dricus Du Plessis’ Coach Hints Next Fight Might Not Be Against Sean Strickland!
Dana White has suggested that Strickland will be next in line for a title shot. However, Du Plessis’ coach recently told Submission Radio that ‘Tarzan’ won’t be the one facing the current champion. Instead, Khamzat Chimaev is looking like the next big match-up, with the fight set to go down in Sydney next year.
He said, “So if Khamzat beats Rob, I think they’re going to play their cards a little bit different and we’re going to fight Khamzat later. But so far, the only thing that’s confirmed is we will be fighting in February in Sydney.”

Given Strickland’s reputation, you can bet he’ll have a meltdown if he doesn’t get that title shot. So it’ll be interesting to see if he gets a chance to bounce back against Du Plessis, the guy who previously snatched his title away.
